As I gaze upon the reflective surface of the water, it is not simply the current reflection that I see. As I look into the murky depths, beyond and through the reflective surface, I can see into my past. I see the muddied bottom, and it reminds me that the past is littered with debris. But without all of this debris, there would be no base for the water to sit on, and therefore my current reflection simply could not be.
As my focus shifts from the bottom, to the layers of water just beneath the surface, the image becomes more and more clear. This allows me to truly understand that from what was the murky past to the clarity of the present was not an instantaneous shift, but with each passing moment in time, or each layer of water towards the surface, the litter becomes less and less.
So now with the understanding of how the past, or depths, have paved the way to the present, or surface, I can look beyond my image. Surrounding my image on the surface is the sky above. This represents my future, and no matter how far into the sky I look, as I gaze at the images on the reflective surface, it remains clear.
This clarity gives me hope that so long as I do not sink beneath the surface, my future will remain bright and clear. But if I fall beneath the surface, and sink into my past, the deeper I dwell into the depths of my past, the more debris I will need to get through to see my future, and my future will be less and less clear.
So this acts as a reminder to use the past as a guide, remain in the present, and maintain a clear view of what could be!
