1. What is your deity's name, and what concepts of the human condition do they represent?
Persephone, also known as Kore. She represents the transition between childhood and adulthood, and finding your power and strength through challenge and adversity.
2. Give a brief description of your god's backstory. How were they born/created? Who are they married to?
Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Demeter raised her on Earth, separate from the Olympians. She was the Holy Daughter, the Maiden of Flowers, always at her mother's side. Zeus granted Hades, God of the Underworld, permission to marry her. Hades abducted Persephone, and brought her to the Underworld. They married, and she became Queen at his side.
3. What is something about your deity that most people don't know?
There's a lot of controversy about whether Persephone willingly married Hades, or whether it was under duress. For my part, I think she truly loves Hades, and would have chosen him, given the chance.
4. What's something unique you've learned from working with them this year?
I've learned more about the connection between poppies and wheat, and the connection between Persephone and Demeter (a blog post
on this subject will give more information).
5. If you were to spend a day with your deity, what activities would do? How would they react to those mortal activities?
I would take her to a spa for the full self-care treatment. We'd talk about our lives, and connect with each other. Persephone is quiet, and very self aware. I think she'd appreciate the one-on-one time, especially with some high quality essential oils made from flowers.
